Jani Soininen

Jani Soininen ( born November 12, 1972 in Jyväskylä ) is a former Finnish ski jumper. He started for the club of his birthplace, the Jyväskylä Hiihtoseura.

Career

His start in the World Cup he had in Lahti on 29 February 1992. The next two years were moderately successful for him, but in the 1993/94 season he made ​​the jump to the Finnish A-Team. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, he reached on the normal hill in sixth, on the large hill and in the team fifth. With the Finnish team, he was at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1995 in Thunder Bay and 1997 in Trondheim World Champion. His first of five World Cup victories, he is celebrated on January 13, 1996 in Engelberg. In the overall World Cup in 1994 he reached the 14th place, 1995 7, 1996 11, 1997 9, 1998 7, 1999 35, 2000 7 and 2001 ranked 10th. The highlight of his career was the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. On the normal hill he surprisingly won gold in the large hill behind Kazuyoshi Funaki silver. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti, he won the Finnish team again silver on the large hill, but after the relatively disappointing season, he finished his career.
