Janisroda is a district of the city of Naumburg ( Saale) in Burgenland district, in Saxony -Anhalt.

Geography

Janisroda located between Jena and Naumburg ( Saale). In this area, the Zeitz - Altenburger Lößhügelland, an offshoot of Leipzig lowlands begins. Adjacent site is Neujanisroda.

History

Janisroda was first documented in 1265. Originally Wansrod or Gansrod, later called Johannisroda and Jansiroda. Heard of the Seydewitz, of Hagenest of Portzigk of Berlepsch and of Romans.

The village was from 1 January 2008 until its dissolution on 31 December 2009 of the joint management of Wethautal. On 1 January 2010, until then independent municipality Janisroda was incorporated together with the communities Crölpa - Löbschütz, Prießnitz and the town of Bad Kösen in the city of Naumburg ( Saale).

West of Janisroda runs the federal highway 88, which runs from Jena to Naumburg (Saale ).

Coat of arms

The community lay down after 1918 a canting arms in, which was borrowed from the place name. The coat of arms shows a red shield in a silver bowl with gold rim the golden severed head of John the Baptist.
