Janosch

Janosch ( born March 11, 1931 in Hindenburg OS, Upper Silesia as Horst Eckert ) is a German illustrator, children's book author and writer. He now lives in Tenerife (Spain).

Life

Janosch said: " To be born Catholic, is the biggest accident of my life ," even though his family was not pronounced religious lived. His father is described as an alcoholic and as violent towards his family. Janosch grew up with his grandparents up in a mining village until his parents could afford their own apartment. At thirteen, he developed jaundice, which was "treated" with schnapps. He was a member of one in his own words " intensely tormented Jesuit youth group ".

In 1944, he received an apprenticeship as a blacksmith and worked in a Locksmith ( " My best and most important time in life because they brought me the most important statement in my life at: There is nothing that does not go ," quoted from From the happiness when Mr. to have survived Janosch ). After the end of World War II and the return of his father in 1946, the parents fled with him to West Germany. Janosch lived for 15 years in Oldenburg, where he worked in textile mills, and visited a textile school in Krefeld, where he participated in a course for drawing patterns in the Clover school Gerhard Kadow.

After a stay in Paris, he moved to Munich in 1953, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, among others with Ernst Geitlinger, but had to cancel his art studies because of " lack of talent " after a few semesters sample. He then worked as a freelance artist. 1956 began his literary activity in the feuilleton. A friend advised him to make his drawings, a children's book, and his publisher George Lentz to call themselves " Janosch ". In 1960 he published his first children's book The History of the horse Valek at the friend of his publisher, 1970, his first novel Cholonek or The God of clay.

In 1980, Janosch, originally to recover from an illness in a house in the mountains of Tenerife, but which he soon chose his permanent place of residence. In an interview Janosch said when asked why he was so reluctant to give interviews: "I'm really autistic. I would prefer invisible. "

Some of his most famous characters are Schnuddel or the tiger duck along with the tiger and the bear in post for the Tigers, Oh, how beautiful is Panama ( filmed under the same title ), and I 'll make you healthy, said the bear appeared. Janosch is characterized, however, and not only writes children's books. In his books for adults it processes, among other experiences of his childhood. The rejection of God-fearing religion, advocacy of family ties, friendship, and the question of the meaning of life are always subject for him.

Janosch was formerly the majority owner of the Janosch AG ( Janosch film & media AG). The shares he received in lieu of an agreed takeover price and left them hanging on the AG VEM Bank for 0.07 cents per share.

His autobiographical book Diary of a pious heretic has not yet been displaced by a publisher. The first chapter, however, was translated into Polish and published after the visit of the writer in Upper Silesia, in the biggest Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza 2005. In the published in Poland chapter of his autobiography Janosch expects critically on with his conservative Silesian family.

Janosch is a thing of the advisory board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation, for which he draws church-critical satirical cartoons. He is also a supporter of the " sparrow campaign " of the German Wildlife Foundation. In support of its commitment, he admits to have to make up for a debt in a way, because his father had been a bird-catcher. In addition, he is committed to the aftercare clinic Tannheim.

On 16 April 2010 Janosch announced as part of an exhibition of his work to try to write no more books more. He would from now on only " go and lie in the hammock " and keep anyway for untalented.

July 2013 announced the Time magazine of his "comeback" with a weekly article for the magazine. In these drawings, it goes to Janosch's words, " to me: Wondrak, the new superstar ".
