Janowice Wielkie

Janowice Wielkie ( German: Jannowitz ) is a place in Jeleniogórski powiat in Poland, located east of the city of Jelenia Góra in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, and seat of the municipality of the same country. Janowice Wielkie lies in the Jelenia Góra valley at the Giant Mountains. Before 1945, the place was called Jannowitz.

Community

The community Janowice Wielkie covers an area of ​​58.09 km ² with a population of 4,100. The rural municipality has six districts ( sołectwo, German names to 1945) with a mayor's office:

History and Personalities

The Jannowitz castle originally belonged to the Count Schaffgotsch, later Count Stolberg.

In Jannowitz the German politician Constantin was born in Stolberg- Wernigerode. He died just like his father Wilhelm of Stolberg- Wernigerode, who was also a politician in Jannowitz. In Jannowitz lived and worked Hugo Scheinert, painter and lecturer at the Royal Art - and arts and crafts school in Breslau.
