Jansenville

Province

Jansenville is a small town in the municipality Ikwezi, Cacadu District, Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. It is located 80 kilometers south of Graaff -Reinet, north of the Zuurberg Mountains. The city is also the seat of local government. 2011, it had 1,134 inhabitants.

The city was founded in 1854, as many places in the Karoo, around a Dutch Reformed Church. It was named after the last Dutch governor of the Cape Colony, Jan Willem Janssens.

The local, typical of the Karoo vegetation is determined by shrubs and succulent plants. One out native Wolfsmilchsart (Euphorbia jansenvillensis ) is named after the place.
