Janssen Biotech

Centocor was an American biotechnology company that was founded in 1979 in Philadelphia. Centocor belongs since 1999 to Johnson & Johnson. As part of its name was changed and the company is called Janssen Biotech since 2011, emerged from Centocor and Ortho Biotech Products. Janssen Biotech has headquarters in Horsham, Pennsylvania.

Originally Centocor was founded to develop monoclonal antibodies for diagnostic purposes. So Centocor developed in 1982 a test for the diagnosis of rabies virus. In 1998, Centocor the drug Remicade ( infliximab ) for the market, one of the most used monoclonal antibodies for Crohn's disease. Remicade is now used also for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other indications.
