Janus Friis

Janus Friis (born 1976 in Denmark ) is a Danish computer scientist and entrepreneur. He is currently director of strategy and innovation at Skype, responsible for product development and business strategy.

Together with his partner Niklas Zennström, he has founded several companies and related software:

  • Altnet that offers first secure P2P network that commercial content worldwide. It covers the entire value chain of promotion, distribution and payment of digital content. Altnet was then the largest exhibitor of digital licenses.
  • Kazaa, a file sharing software based on the model developed by Friis FastTrack protocol.
  • Joltid, a company that provides peer -to-peer solutions and technology to optimize the network traffic.
  • Skype ( 2003), was sold in 2006 for USD 2.6 billion to eBay.
  • Rdio (2010 ), a commercial-free music subscription and audio-on -demand service.

His entrepreneurial streak has discovered when he worked with Zennström at Tele2 Friis. There, they worked together in the creation of Get2Net ( another Danish Internet Provider), and activation of the service portal everyday.com.

Janus has aborted the middle school and his career in the user support at Cybercity started one of the first Internet provider in Denmark.

Friis has been included in the list of 100 most influential people of 2006 Time Magazine.
