Janus Green B is a chemical compound selected from the group of azo dyes ( monoazo ). It is in the form of a black powder.
Production and representation
Janus Green B can be obtained by diazotization of Safranin with N, N -dimethylaniline.
Use
Janus Green B is used as a dye in microscopy and histology. It is a so-called vital dye, i.e., the colored structures such as mitochondria, leukocytes and embryonic tissue still remain functional. That Janus green is suitable for staining of mitochondria, was discovered by Leonor Michaelis and published in 1900. Janus Green is used as a dye for the other color in the modified Ziehl- Neelsen stain. In the presence of an oxidant, the dye stained blue by oxidation, otherwise by reducing pink ( it creates safranin ).
