Janus of Cyprus

Janus of Cyprus (* 1375, † 1432 ) was from 1398 to 1432 King of Cyprus and titular King of Jerusalem and Armenia.

He succeeded his father James I to the throne of Cyprus.

After the battle of Khirokitia (7 July 1426) against the Mamluks Janus was taken from these captured and taken to Cairo, where he paid homage to the Sultan publicly. After ten months in prison, he was ransomed. During this time ruled his brother Hugh of Lusignan, Archbishop of Nicosia, the island.

Janus married in August 1411 Charlotte of Bourbon. She was very popular on the island, it was believed that their arrival was a locust plague ended, which had destroyed fruit trees, vines and sugar cane.

After his death he was succeeded by his son John.
