Janusz Morgenstern

Janusz Morgenstern ( born November 16, 1922 in Mikulince in Tarnopol, Poland, today Ukraine; † 6 September 2011 in Warsaw) was a Polish film director and film producer.

Life

Janusz " Kuba " Morgenstern was the son of David Morgenstern and Estera Druks, both Jews from Galicia. He studied the early 1950s at the Film School in Łódź directed and finished his studies in 1954. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant director at Wanda Jakubovska and Andrzej Wajda. He assisted Wajda in his legendary films The channel and Ashes and Diamonds. His debut with a full-length feature film he made in 1960 with Goodbye until tomorrow. In the 1960s and 1970s, he created several popular Polish television series such as Stawka większą Niz życie and Kolumbowie. He was many years artistic director of the film studios Perspektywa and began after the political changes in 1989 to work as a film producer.
