Janusz Zarenkiewicz

Janusz Zarenkiewicz ( born August 3, 1959 in Głuchołazy ) is a retired Polish boxer in the super heavyweight ( 91 kg). His greatest successes were winning a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympic Games and the European Championships in 1988.

National Championships

Zarenkiewicz 1977 Polish Junior Champion, Polish Champion, and 1979 in the age group U- 20th In the U -20 Championships in 1978, he was, however, failed in the quarterfinals against Leszek Rybiński.

1981, 1982, 1986, 1987 and 1989, he was Polish Champion, 1985 runner-up after final defeat by Marek Pałucki. The World Championship 1980, he was subject in the preliminary round Jacek Kucharczyk, at the competitions in 1984 he lost in the quarterfinals against Roman Ślusarczyk.

In Polish Championships he defeated among others Ryszard Misiak, Roman Ślusarczyk, Leszek Rybiński, Leszek Gajda, Jacek Srocki, Czesław Dawiec, Marek Kaszkiel, Zbigniew Ejsmont, Marian Klepka, Leszek Kropiwnicki, Władysław Wydra, Marian Klass, Stanisław Chodecki, Ryszard Jarmoluk and Marek Pałucki.

International competitions

In 1983 he took part in the 6th International Feliks tribe Memorial part in Warsaw, where he entered by knockout win against the Bulgarians Pepi Emilov the final and there was defeated on points his compatriot Marek Pałucki.

At the 26th European Championship 1985 in Budapest, he defeated in the quarterfinals multiple Italian masters Biagio Chianese 5-0 on points, but then went on to the semi-final not fight and thus increased the bronze medal of the championship.

At the 4th World Cup 1986 in Reno (Nevada ), he was defeated in the quarterfinals Vyacheslav Yakovlev. This, however, he defeated in April 1987 at the 7th Intercup in German Hemsbach. There he came by walkover against Andreas Schnieders the finals, where he won by disqualification of his opponent Alexander Miroshnichenko.

In 1987, he lost in the quarter- finals of the 27th European Championships in Turin, through point defeat against Ulli Kaden. The 8th Intercup in April 1988 in Karlsruhe, was also the venue for the Olympic qualification for Seoul. He qualified by winning against the Swedes, Peter Nyman and the German Andreas Schnieders.

In the 24th Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, he won the bronze medal. He defeated Harold Arroyo of Puerto Rico 5-0, and again Andreas Schnieders 3:2. In the semifinals, he no longer went to, which his opponent Lennox Lewis moved without a fight in the final.

At the 28th European Championships in 1989 in Athens, he was defeated in the quarter-finals ahead of Alexander Miroshnichenko.
