Japanese Domestic Market

JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market.

Originally it referred to in the automotive industry, the trim level of a vehicle in which it was available on the Japanese market or is.

According to the trim level of the vehicle in Japan also exist the terms USDM (United States Domestic Market) and EDM ( European Domestic Market) which denote the corresponding model characteristics on the American and European market.

The abbreviation has already established itself in the tuning scene for many years and finds often in modified form application so JDM is no longer just for the trim but called a new form of car tuning without flashy spoilers. The modified after the JDM model vehicles borrowed heavily from the series optics in the Japanese version on, it will only subtle changes performed (eg chassis, wider but discreet, Alloy Wheels, mirrors, often a rather rare but not too flash / flashy paint), which do not alter the overall appearance of the vehicle.

However, this can not generalize, as well as in Japan itself some very flashy spoilers is built.

If manufactured parts have been built exclusively in Japan and / or for the Japanese market, it is called JDM. If there are replicas or imitations of the original parts on the vehicle it is called JDM Ricer. So for example, the American wheel manufacturer Rota replicas of many wheels of Japanese manufacturers, such as Mugen, Spoon, Ray, etc.
