The Japanese Terrier (Japanese日本 テリア, Nihon Teria ) is recognized by the FCI Japanese dog breed (FCI Group 3, Section 2, Standard No. 259).

Origin and History

The origins of the breed are in 1702, as a Smooth Fox Terrier were brought from Holland to Japan and interbreeding with native dogs of Japan Terrier originated. The dogs were kept mainly in the port cities of Yokohama and Kobe as lap dogs that were worn on walks by their owners. They were called Oyuku or Mikado Terrier. A planned breeding of a modern breed dog began around 1920. It took about 10 years for the race picture had solidified.

Short Description

The Japanese Terrier is up to 33 cm tall. The hair is three colors, predominantly white, the head black, tan and white, or white with black spots, where the body black or tan markings occur. It is very short, smooth, dense and glossy. The ears are set high, moderately small, thin, V-shaped, hanging and dropping forward.
