Japoma Bridge

The Bridge of Edea is a 160 -meter-long steel arch bridge that spans the River Sanaga in Edea city in Cameroon.

History

The bridge was built in 1911 taken during the German colonial period of Cameroon in operation. It was designed in Germany by the Gutehoffnungshütte in Oberhausen and manufactured and once established on a trial basis before she was transported in parts to Cameroon. At the time of its commissioning, it was the longest steel arch bridge in Africa. Importance for the regional traffic

The Bridge of Edea was originally an important rail link between Douala and Yaounde. Today it is no longer used for rail transport, but only by pedestrians, cyclists and moped riders.
