Jarmo Myllys

Jarmo Pentti Kalevi Myllys (* May 29, 1965 in Savonlinna ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender. During his career he played for the Minnesota North Stars and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, and Ilves Tampere, Lukko Rauma, Espoo Blues and Jokerit Lappeenranta in the Finnish SM- liiga and Luleå HF and HV 71 Jonkoping of the Swedish Elitserien.

Career

Myllys began his career at SaPKo Savonlinna in his hometown and moved to the 1983/84 season to Ilves Tampere, where he played until the end of the 1985/86 season and won a championship. Then he worked for two seasons to Lukko Rauma. In his last season in the SM- liiga, he was awarded the Lasse Oksanen trophy for the best player in the league.

For 1988/ 89, the goalkeeper moved to North America, where it ran aground Stars for the Minnesota North, who had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1987 in the ninth round at 172 position. In three seasons with the North Stars of the fin was used in only twelve games and spent most of the time in the International Hockey League farm team at Minnesota, the Kalamazoo Wings. In the summer of 1991 he moved, due to the NHL Dispersal Draft to the San Jose Sharks. After 92 contested in the season 1991 /27 games for the Sharks, they sold him in the summer of 1992 to the Toronto Maple Leafs, for whom he never played.

For the 1992/93 season Myllys returned to Finland, where he first went aground for KooKoo Kouvola. The following season, he signed for another year at his old club Lukko Rauma, only to change in 1994 in the Swedish Elitserien for Luleå HF. In Luleå he played a total of seven seasons until 2001, and in 1996 Swedish champion. It was followed by the re- return to Finland for two years on the Espoo Blues. After another brief stint in Sweden with HV 71 Jönköping in the season 2003 /04 he made his career in his homeland with Jokerit Lappeenranta finish. After the 2004/ 05 season, he finished his career.

Internationally

Myllys plays for the Finnish national team in a total of two junior and six senior world championships. He also took part in three Winter Olympic Games and the World Cup of Hockey. At the Junior World Championships he was able to win a silver medal in the Senior World Championships a gold and three silver medals and one silver and three bronze at the Olympic Games. At the World Cup in 1995, he was elected Most Valuable Player.
