Jaromír Weinberger

Jaromír Weinberger ( born January 8, 1896 in Prague; † August 8, 1967 in Saint Petersburg, Florida) was a Czech composer.

Life

Weinberger studied at the Prague Conservatory with Jaroslav Křička and Karel Hoffmeister. At 20, he moved to Leipzig to the local conservatory in the composition class of Max Reger. With its 1927, first performed in Prague Opera Švanda dudák he quickly became very well known. His most successful work experienced in the years to numerous performances worldwide, until 1931, it was established on 2000. Since 1929 in Baden near Vienna and in Modřany in Prague, he had to emigrate as a Jew in the fall of 1938 and was able to enter over France in 1939 in the United States. In 1948 he became an American citizen. After the Second World War, he returned only to their summer holidays to Europe. He died in 1967 by suicide.
