Jaroslav Kvapil (composer)

Jaroslav Kvapil (* April 21, 1892 in Fryšták ( German Freistadt) in the municipality of Zlín, † February 18, 1958 in Brno ) was a Czech composer.

The student of Leoš Janáček was from 1920 to 1924 director of the Czech Philharmonic school, then a professor of piano and composition at the Conservatory of Brno and finally in 1947 at the Janáček Academy of Music.

He composed four symphonies, two violin concertos, a piano and an oboe concerto, an opera ( The Maimärchen, 1940-43 ), a melodrama and an oratorio, chamber music, cantatas, choral works and songs.
