Jason Matthews (boxer)

Jason Matthews ( born July 28, 1970 in London ) is a former British professional boxer and former WBO world champion at middleweight. His fight name was " Method Man ".

As an amateur boxer he was English Champion in 1991 and 1995 English Light Welterweight champion at middleweight.

Matthews was especially known for his punching power. He won his first 16 professional fights in a row, 14 of them by KO On 29 May 1997 he won against the Americans Patrick Swann by Ko in round 6, and thereby won the Intercontinental Championship title of the WBO, he successfully defended on 11 October by a knockout win in round 7 over his compatriot Darren Dorrington.

On 7 February 1998 he finally suffered his first defeat when he compared the Hungarian Lorant Szabo by Ko lost in Round 6 and had to give up his title. On 27 February 1999, he was, however, Commonwealth champion after his opponent Paul Jones was disqualified due to inactivity in the 7th round.

On 17 July 1999, he was with a knockout win in round 2 of his compatriot Ryan Rhodes, interim WBO world champion. The real champion of the WBO was since January 1999, the German Bert Schenk but it was due to injury since May no more title defense challenge, which is why he was stripped of his title and Matthews was finally appointed in November 1999 as the new, reigning WBO champion. But the very first title defense fight on November 27 of the same year, he had his world title due to a knockout loss in round 8, dispose to the Swedes Armand Krajnc. This was also the last professional fight of his career.
