Jason Miller (playwright)

Jason Anthony Miller ( born April 22, 1939 in Long Iceland, New York, † 13 May 2001, Scranton, Pennsylvania ) was an American actor and playwright.

Life

As an actor, he became famous for his role of the priest Damien Karras in The Exorcist (1973 ), which earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1990 he played the role in The Exorcist III one more time.

But Miller was also a successful author of dramas. His play That Championship Season was awarded in 1973 with the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. He filmed the piece in 1982 ( German title season the winner), but the level is only moderately successful, as was another film version from 1999 (directed by Paul Sorvino ). Only Bruce Dern won a Silver Bear at the Berlinale in 1983 as one of the protagonists of the 1982 version.
