Jason Rohrer

Jason Rohrer ( born November 14, 1977) is a freelance programmer, writer and artist. He is known among other things as a developer of anonymous exchange market MUTE and that he has cracked the protocol of the online music store Apple iTunes. Rohrer currently lives (2011) in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Copyright

Jason Rohrer disclaims copyright. In his essay Free Distribution (English for free distribution ), he argues for two alternative compensation mechanisms: Firstly, for the Street Performer Protocol, in which the author of a work published freely as soon as he pre-specified amount of money from the interested parties shall be paid together. Secondly, for a system in which the author is paid continuously by his followers.

Rohrer is even in this sense, and trying to live on donations. He documented his work in a logbook. He published his programming and other work under free licenses (free software or free content ) or makes them available in the public domain (english public domain).

Other Projects

North Country Notes (NCN ) is a regional currency project in Potsdam, New York. After he had originally helped just a little, Jason Rohrer took over in October 2004, the entire project from those who had started it.

In the winter of 2003, Jason Rohrer designed a new paper currency system, the Z- dollars. He published the idea but only one and a half years later, on 24 May 2005.

Rohrer developed a series of free computer games such as Cultivation, a simulation of a community of gardeners or passage.

Family and private life

Jason Rohrer is applying the simple life he leads with his family in order to strengthen the regional economy and to reduce their ecological footprint.
