Jason Smith (basketball, born 1986)

Jason Smith ( born March 2, 1986 in Kersey, Colorado ) is an American professional basketball player who is currently with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA under contract.

Career

College

Smith played for the Colorado State University. There he was in his first season reached 10.5 points in 24.4 minutes per game. In addition, he still reached 5.8 rebounds per game. In his next season he was able to increase it again, scoring 16.2 points in 28.7 minutes per game, while he was still able to have 2.1 block. In his junior season, while his last college he played about 2 minutes more, reaching 0.6 points per game more than last year, came to 10.1 rebounds per game. When he left college and joined the NBA, he scored the sixth most rebounds, the fifth- most block and the second- most double- doubles in the history of the college.

NBA

Smith was selected in 20th place of the Miami Heat in the 2007 NBA Draft and shortly thereafter traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Daequan Cook. In his first season for Philadelphia, in his rookie season, he played in 76 games and scored an average of 4.5 points and 3 rebounds per game. 2008/ 09, however, he played in any game. The next season for him was solid, if unspectacular. He scored 3.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. After the season, he was traded along with Willie Green in exchange for Craig Brackins and Darius Songaila to the New Orleans Hornets.

His first season with the Hornets was similar to the two earlier, he was able to achieve 4.3 points per game. In his second season, however, he got more playing time from the beginning and was fast becoming a major part of his team. He could throw a ratio of 52 % and 9.9 points per game. He played in 40 games, of which he was in 29 in the starting five.
