Jason Smith (ice hockey)

Jason Matthew Smith ( born November 2, 1973 in Calgary, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played 1993-2009 for the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League.

Career

Jason Smith started his career as a hockey player with the Regina Pats, where he was active from 1990 to 1993 in the Western Hockey League. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 in the first round than a total of 18 players from the New Jersey Devils, for whom he played in the National Hockey League from 1993 to 1997. He also won with the farm team of the American Hockey League, the Albany River Rats, in the season 1994 /95, the Calder Cup. On 25 February 1997, the defenders of New Jersey was delivered to their league rival Toronto Maple Leafs, for the right shooter aground the following two and a half years before he was transferred at the end of season 1998/ 99 on the Edmonton Oilers. With the Oilers he was defeated in the 2005/06 season in the Stanley Cup final to the Carolina Hurricanes.

After eight years, Smith left in the summer of 2007, the Oilers and the Philadelphia Flyers joined them, for he was a year on the ice before he was ahead of the 2008 /09 season committed by the Ottawa Senators. After the season, he finished his career.

Internationally

For Canada, Smith participated in the U20 Junior World Cup 1993 and the 2001 World Championships in part.

Smith had a supporting role in the movie Star Trek (2009 ), in which he was allowed to record it in a short scene with the main character Captain Kirk. Later in the film Kirk was arrested by him.
