Jason Ward

Jason Ward ( born January 16, 1979 in Chapleau, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach, who played most recently at the EHC Linz in the Austrian Hockey League.

Career

Ward began his career in the Ontario Hockey League, the highest Canadian junior league, and debuted in the 1997/98 season as a professional in the American Hockey League. In 1997, he was pulled in eleventh place in the NHL Entry Draft. Overall, he completed 348 games in the NHL, most of them for the Canadiens de Montréal. In the season 2006/ 07 he was transferred in exchange for Sean Avery of the New York Rangers to the Los Angeles Kings. His last games he completed after a further change in the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, in the years 2009 and 2010, he was only in the AHL to inserts. In the spring of 2010, he finally finished for lack of contractual offers his active career and was active in the meantime as assistant coach of the Brampton Battalion in the OHL before the Austrian first division club EHC Linz brought him back as a replacement for the disappointing Eric Healey from the early retirement. After 35 games with the Black Wings until the end of the season 2010/11 Ward returned to the Brampton Battalion in the Ontario Hockey League, where he again acts as an assistant coach since then.

Internationally

Ward represented his native country at the Junior World Cup in 1998 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 1999. During the two tournaments he played a total of 14 games and he scored three points. In the U20 Junior World Championship 1999, the winger was defeated in the final match with Canada against Russia and won the silver medal.
