Jasov

Jasov ( German Jossau / Joss, Hungarian Jászó ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 3378 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Košice - okolie kraj part of Košice.

Geography

The municipality is located on the upper Jasov Bodva on the northeast edge of the mountain range Slovak Karst ( Slovenský kras ), 21 kilometers west of Košice.

To Jasov 1950 is my finished site Jasovský Podzámok heard ( German Pisendorf ).

Neighboring communities of Jasov are Prakovice in the north, Poproč in the northeast, Rudnik in the east, Debraď in the south, Turňa Bodvou in the southwest, west and Vyšný Medzev Medzev in the northwest.

History

The village was mentioned in documents in 1243 for the first time as Jazow and was already an important settlement site.

Until 1918 the village belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. By the First Vienna Award they came from 1938 to 1945 for a short time again to Hungary.

He is known primarily for the famous monastery of Premonstratensian, which dominates the town. In the Middle Ages the town should be developed into a mining center ( with the help of German miners ), so was the Jasov 1243 to the mountain town and was later a member of the 7 Upper Hungarian mining towns. After the failure of the project due to less productive deposits, the place became as random conditioning on.

In Jasov is the Jossauer Cave (Slovak Jasovska Cave ), a year-round cave and at the same time the oldest walk in Slovakia.
