Jasper D. Ward

Jasper Delos Ward ( born February 1, 1829 in Java, Wyoming County, New York; † August 6, 1902 in Denver, Colorado) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jasper Ward attended Allegheny College in Meadville (Pennsylvania). After a subsequent law degree in 1852 and its recent approval as a lawyer in Chicago, he started to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1855 and 1860 he was with the exception of the year 1857 the city council of Chicago. He took eight months as a soldier in the army of the Union part in the civil war. Between 1862 and 1870 he was a member of the Illinois Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1872 Ward was in the second electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John F. Farnsworth on March 4, 1873. Since he has not been confirmed in 1874, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1875.

Between 1875-1877 Jasper Ward was federal prosecutor for the northern part of the State of Illinois. In 1877 he moved to Leadville, Colorado. From 1881 to 1882 he acted as a judge in the Fifth Judicial District of that State. Later he settled in Denver, where he practiced as a lawyer again. He is also passed on August 6, 1902.
