Jaunpils

Jaunpils, is a place in the west of Latvia and the center of the county of the same name.

History

The village grew up around a castle from the 14th century and to the good of Neuchâtel. The area has long been owned by the family von der Recke.

The folklorist Krišjānis Barons (1835-1923) and Alexander Hans Bernewitz (1863-1935), the first bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brunswick were born in the municipality.

Jaunpils novads

Was created in 2009 from the communities and Viesati Jaunpils Jaunpils novads. 2010 were reported in 2743 inhabitants.
