JavaOne

JavaOne is an annual conference, which was introduced in 1996 by Sun Microsystems to, mainly to discuss the Java technologies among Java developers. JavaOne will be held in San Francisco and usually runs from Sunday to Friday. The day will be mostly technical presentations on a number of different topics in the evening so-called Birds of a Feather ( BOF) lectures will be held. BOF sessions allow to focus on a specific aspect of Java technology.

Access to technical sessions, keynote presentations, exhibitions, and BOF sessions is only possible after presentation of a conference badge. This costs 1795-1995 U.S. dollars.

In 1999 an event called the Hackathon was held at the conference, a contest that was invented by John Gage. Participants had a program in Java for the new Palm V, which occurs in connection with use of the infrared interface with other Palm users and the device registered on the internet.

JavaOne 2010, the first conference after the acquisition of Sun by Oracle Corporation, was held from 19 to 23 September, simultaneously with Oracle OpenWorld. This was the first year in which the conference was not held at the Moscone Center, it was instead held in several hotels nearby.

JavaOne 2011 will be held from 2nd to 6th October 2011.

CommunityOne

2007, the corresponding event CommunityOne was launched, which was intended for the wider public of the developers of free and open source software. On 5 May 2008, the second annual CommunityOne was held.

2009 CommunityOne been to New York City ( CommunityOne East, March 18 to 19 ) and Oslo, Norway ( CommunityOne North, April 15 ) expanded. The third annual CommunityOne in San Francisco was held June 3, 2009 at the Moscone Center from 1.

Presentations were:

  • Cloud Platforms - Development and distribution of cloud computing.
  • Social and Collaborative Platforms - Social Networks and trends of Web 2.0.
  • Web Platforms - Dynamic programming languages, databases and web servers.
  • Server -side Platforms - SOA, tools, application servers and databases.
  • Mobile Development - Mobile platforms, devices, tools, and application development.
  • Operating Systems and Infrastructure - speed, virtualization and native development.
  • Free and Open - Open source projects, business models and trends.

CommunityOne was discontinued after the acquisition of Sun by Oracle.

Featured Equipment

Each year, a new device was presented at the conference, which could be bought by the participants, usually before it was to the general public.
