Jaw coupling

The elastomer coupling is a clutch which is used in applications susceptible to vibration and shock. Absorbing properties are achieved by the connecting member between the two hubs. This so-called elastomer insert is available in different shore hardnesses. Depending on the requirements, an elastomer ring with low damping properties ( high torsional stiffness ) and for strongly oscillating systems or large bumps an elastomer ring with a high degree of damping is (low torsional stiffness ) used in low vibrations or minor impacts. For special cases where the installation space is small and the speed is very high, coming up with threads or metal reinforced elastomer couplings are used. Here, the torque is transmitted through the inner fabric and the elastomer assumes a damping function. These couplings can be operated reversibly, as they are not biased and are not dependent on the rubber - metal adhesion. A frequent application is, for example, in the propeller shaft with rear - and all-wheel drive vehicles, marine propulsion technology, and engineering.

A good hysteresis loop and a reduced wear behavior are further advantages of elastomer coupling. Speeds up 30.000/min can be achieved by balancing. Misalignments in lateral, angular and axial misalignments are also offset by elastomeric couplings. Due to its design, this clutch is electrically insulating.
