Jaworzno concentration camp

The Central Labour Camp Jaworzno (Polish: Centralny Obóz Pracy w Jaworznie, COP Jaworzno ) was a 1945 to 1949 operated on the grounds of the former SS labor camp Neu-Dachs in Jaworzno prison camp for alleged " enemies of the people " ( Wrogowie Narodu ) of the People's Republic of Poland.

In February 1945, the camp was first taken by the NKVD in possession, and then taken over by the Polish Ministry of Public Security and renamed Central labor camp. The inscription was " Arbeit macht frei " over the gate replaced by " Praca uszlachetnia człowieka " ( " Work ennobles man" ). The guards were of the Internal Security Corps ( corpus Bezpieczeństwa Wewnętrznego ) soldiers.

Commander was from 1949 Salomon Morel, who previously was known for his cruelty at the labor camp Zgoda in Świętochłowice. Other commanders were Stanisław Kwiatkowski, Ivan Mordasov and Teofil Hazel Majer.

According to incomplete official figures 1,535 people died 1945-1947, 972 of them at a typhoid epidemic. In addition to camps existed in Chrusty and Libiąż.
