Jay Chamberlain

Jay Chamberlain ( born December 29, 1925 in Los Angeles, † August 1, 2001 in Tucson ) was an American race car driver.

Jay Chamberlain drove in the 1950 sports car racing in the United States. His preferred cars were racing cars of the Lotus brand, for which he was one of the first importers in the United States. In 1957 he came to Europe and was in Le Mans together with Herbert MacKay - Fraser ninth on a factory Lotus XI. The two crowned their strong performance with a win in the class up to 750 cc. In the same year he finished second in a sports car race in Rouen and injured two weeks later at another sports car race in Reims hard when he came off in training on the track.

In 1958 he had a serious accident when he drove into the Mulsanne into the barriers at Le Mans. Chamberlain, this time traveling with partner Pete Lovely in a Lotus MK15, remained unharmed.

In 1962 he drove for Ecurie Excelsior and the Lotus 18 in Formula 1 only at the Grand Prix of Great Britain at Aintree he could qualify for a World Championship race. In the end he was with a gap of eleven laps on the winner Jim Clark 15
