Biography

Jay Greenberg dealt unusually early with music in theory and practice. He began with three years to play cello and composing regularly. The reasons for this are probably only partially in Greenberg's parents: Greenberg's father, although by profession a pianist, but works as a linguist for Slavic languages. Greenberg's mother has no musical background.

One of Greenberg's mentors, Antony John, reported in the booklet to the first CD release Greenberg at Sony BMG Masterworks, Greenberg had " reached his gentle and persistent way that he could listen to a collection of Beethoven LPs with a friend over and over again. He taught himself basic features of the theory at, by comparing what is heard in the score with the saw. "In the coming years, Greenberg has composed many symphonic works and developed further in his work with tremendous speed.

Attentive to Jay Greenberg was the music world by Juilliard professor Samuel Zyman, the 60 Minutes introduced Greenberg on November 28, 2004 in broadcast on CBS News as saying: "We are talking about a child prodigy who in the field of composition the same skills has as great prodigies of history. I mean this quite composers such as Mozart, Mendelssohn and Saint- Saëns. "

With 12 years Greenberg has been approved as the first junior student and scholarship holder at a specially set up full-time study in composition at the Juilliard School. There he studied under the guidance of the composer Samuel Adler. In addition, he continues completed a regular school.

Jay Greenberg designs his works - like for example Shostakovich - first completely in thought; to the transcript he uses a computer and a special notation program that makes it possible to bring the written word to be sounded immediately.

Greenberg is the youngest composer of all time, has signed a recording contract with a major label: Sony BMG Masterworks label released on 15 August 2005 Greenberg's first CD. On it are to hear Greenberg's Fifth Symphony, played by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by José Serebrier and his String Quintet, played by the Juilliard String Quartet and cellist Darrett Adkins.

Questions about its future planning Greenberg answered frankly: " I 'm going to study music, but probably not in the main compartment. I'm trying to decide between philosophy and the natural sciences - probably chemistry or physics.. Or maybe psychology " When asked about his very young age, noted Greenberg: " Yes, but that's not the point. The point is that I write music, and not that I'm writing music at a certain age. "
