Jay Migliori

Jay Migliori ( born November 14, 1930 in Erie ( Pennsylvania), † September 2, 2001 in Mission Viejo, California ) was an American jazz and studio musician ( tenor and baritone saxophone, clarinet, flute).

Biography

Migliori comes from a musical family first began playing alto saxophone and attended from 1949 to 1950, the St. Louis Institute of Music. 1951/52, he was a member of the 571st Air Force Band in Texas. After his discharge from the army, he studied at the Berklee School of Music. During his studies in Boston, he played with Miles Davis in 1953 and 1954 with Charlie Parker. In early 1957 he became a member of the Woody Herman Orchestra, with whom he went to South America tour. In 1959, he moved to Los Angeles and worked as a freelance studio musician; he was from 1961 a member of a group of talented session musicians who called himself Wrecking Crew. This he was involved in more than 4,000 plate productions, such as Glen Campbell, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, The Beach Boys ( " God Only Knows", 1966) or Celine Dion. In addition, he played in the jazz clubs of the city. In 1971, he was with Frank Zappa on tour in Europe. 1972 to 1984 he was a member of the formation Supersax. He also played with his own bands, which created some albums, as well as the bandleader Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Gil Evans, Terry Gibbs, David Axelrod or Louie Bellson. He died in 2001 from colon cancer.
