Jay Russell

Jay Russell ( born January 10, 1960 in North Little Rock, Arkansas, USA) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter.

Short Biography

Russell studied directing at Columbia University, where he obtained his degree in 1984. Among his teachers was the famous Czech film director Milos Forman. Among his first commissions was the staging of commercials for the national parks of his home state of Arkansas. The client was the then Governor of Arkansas, the later U.S. President Bill Clinton.

In 1987, Russell at the age of only 27 years directed a feature film - the film drama Full Steam to Chicago with Wilford Brimley and Kevin Bacon as the main character. However, it would take 13 years until Russell succeeded again in 2000, to direct. In the meantime, he sat documentaries among others at Discovery Channel, CBS and USA Network in the scene.

2000, Russell filed with the comedy film My Dog Skip back and led since then in three other films directed. His final works of fantasy film counts My friend, the water dragon from the year 2007.

Russell is married to the movie props and set designer Lee Cunningham since 1991.
