Jaye Davidson

Jaye Davidson ( born March 21, 1968 in Riverside, California as Alfred Amey ) is a US-born English actor and model.

Biography

His mother is from England and his father from Ghana. When he was two and a half years old, he moved with his family to Hertfordshire (England), where he grew up in a medium-sized white environment. His parents separated when he was very young. Jaye stayed with his mother and was educated as Roman Catholics. He dropped out of school at age 16 and earned his living doing odd jobs - including as a hair stylist and model. His wish was always to be a fashion designer.

Jaye Davidson was discovered on the final party to the shooting of Derek Jarman's film Edward II (1991) for a starring role in Neil Jordan's film The Crying Game. Shortly before, he had lost his last job at the bankrupt Fashion designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed among other things, the wedding dress for Diana Spencer's wedding to Prince Charles. By his own testimony, however, Jaye Davidson was the beginning of the acting career very enthusiastic, because of his financial distress rely on it. The Crying Game 1992 a great success and brought him in 1993 even a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Thereafter, however, failed to materialize other offers.

1994 - now penniless again - he played the role of " Ra" in Roland Emmerich's Stargate alongside Kurt Russell and James Spader, which should have earned him according to his statement a million dollars. But this film, success could not permanently bind to the acting career him. He joined in 1994 in the TV production jiggery Pokery ( with Ute Lemper and Siobhan Fahey ) and was seen in 1996 in Catwalk, a 1993 documentary film about three working weeks of the model Christy Turlington.
