JDRF

The JDRF is an international non-profit organization in the United States with the aim of promoting research to cure, treatment and prevention of type 1 diabetes. It is tax- exempt under section 501 ( c ) of the Internal Revenue Code and, according to a list of Forbes Magazine's 100 largest nonprofit organizations in the United States.

The organization was founded in 1970 under the name Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, but uses the resulting shortcut since 2011 officially. It is headquartered in New York in Building 120 Wall Street and national sister organizations or agencies in Australia, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

In 2012, the JDRF sponsored research projects for a total amount of 110 million U.S. dollars, including more than 50 clinical trials. Of these resources were around 65 million U.S. dollars for research to cure, used about 36 million U.S. dollars for research for treatment and about eight million dollars for research on the prevention of type 1 diabetes. Since its founding, the organization has financed projects totaling more than 1.7 billion U.S. dollars.
