Jean Alexandru Steriadi

Jean Alexandru Steriadi ( born October 29, 1880 in Bucharest, † November 23, 1956 ) was a Romanian painter and graphic artist.

Life

Steriadi studied from 1897 to 1901 at the Scoala de Arte Frumoase in Bucharest, then to 1903 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he was a student of Wilhelm von Diez, Gabriel von Hackl, Heinrich Wolff and Ernst Neumann. From 1903 to 1906 he lived in Paris, where he took courses at the Academy Julian under Jean -Paul Laurens and took lessons with Lucien Simon.

In 1906 he had his first solo exhibition in Ateneul Roman in Bucharest. He was president of the Society Tinerimea Artistica and professor of painting, design and graphics at the Scoala de Arte Frumoase. Stereadi was well known as a painter of portraits of contemporary poets and painters such as Alexandru Macedonski, Alexandru Vlahuţă and Stefan Luchian such as a lithographer and caricaturist. One of his last works was a self-portrait, which he completed in 1956.
