Jean-Baptiste Huet
Jean -Baptiste Marie Huet, notation partially Huet, Jean- Baptiste Huet Jean-Baptiste Huet I or the Elder, (* October 15, 1745 in Paris, † August 27, 1811 in Paris) was a French painter, draftsman and etcher.
Life and work
Jean -Baptiste Huet came from a Parisian family of artists. ( † after 1788 also Nicolas Huet the Elder, * 1718), who had studied painting under Jean -Baptiste Oudry His father was the painter Nicolas Huet. His uncle Christophe Huet also worked as a painter. Taken, -, The sons of Jean -Baptiste Huet, François Huet (1772-1813), Jean -Baptiste Huet and Nicolas Huet (1770-1828 Nicolas Huet II also ) (also Jean- Baptist Huet II date of death unknown born 1772) later as the painter profession.
His education was Jean -Baptiste Huet, first in his father's workshop. Then taught him the related with the family Huet painter Charles Dagomer. From 1766 Jean Baptiste Leprince was his teacher. About him learned Huet François Boucher, with whom he became friends. His friends also belonged to Pierre Paul Prud'hon. Since 1769 Huet was a member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture. He married in 1769 Marie -Geneviève Chevalier, daughter of the painter Jean -François Chevalier. The couple lived from 1770 in an apartment in the Louvre. Huet received several orders for the equipment of the royal rooms of the Palace of Versailles.
Until the French Revolution Huet was a successful artist and painted mainly landscapes and pastoral scenes along the lines of Boucher or animal representations in the style of Oudry. In addition, he created an extensive graphic work in different techniques. This work published since 1770 in numerous reproductions. Furthermore, he put forth repeated designs for the porcelain Sèvres factory, working on templates for tapestries. He also made designs for wallpaper and fabrics of the factories of Christophe- Philippe Oberkampf and Jean -Baptiste Reveillon. In his last years, Huet had probably given up painting and mainly work as a draftsman and etcher. His works include illustrations of books such as Contes of La Fontaine or Voyage de la Grèce pittoresque by Marie -Gabriel -Florent- Auguste de Choiseul - Gouffier.
