Jean-Baptiste Loeillet of London
Jean -Baptiste Loeillet (* 1680 in Ghent, † 1730 in London) was a Belgian composer, harpsichordist, flautist and oboist.
He lived since 1705 in London and was called there John. Also, to distinguish it from Jean -Baptiste Loeillet de Gant, he is still known as the John Loeillet or John of London. His works have been registered in England partly under the name Lully; confusion with Jean -Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) is therefore also not excluded.
Loeillet wrote instrumental music, primarily for the flute. It is said that he introduced the modern form of this instrument in England.
