Work

With his first releases Milner was one of the earliest französischern linguists who rezipierte the linguistics of Noam Chomsky in France, whose Aspects of a Theory of Syntax Milner translated. However, he protested against the cognitive biological foundations that Chomsky would be implemented in future releases of his theory of language. Though he holds on to the formal framework, the Chomsky's generative grammar ready to put in their various stages of development, it developed as a critic of Chomsky linguistics, its problems in his book Introduction à une science du langage ( Seuil, 1989) showed. This work is a study of the wissenschaftstheortetische epistemology of linguistics, for which there is little comparable in its way.

While Chomsky's linguistics provided the formal description methods for Milner's linguistics and the essential epistemological approaches of Alexandre Koyré originate, is the central, although not always explicitly stated theoretical point of reference the work of the psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, he. L' œuvre claire Lacan, la science et la philosophie ( Seuil, 1995) as a clear rational thinkers - and not as a Dadaist " Poststruktualisten " - portrayed.

In addition, Milner published works of literature ( Detections fictives, Seuil, 1985, Dire le verse, along with François Regnault, Seuil, 1987; Mallarmé au tombeau, Verdier, 1999) and intervened in the public debate about European anti-Semitism (Les penchants criminels de l'Europe démocratique Verdier, 2003) and to the position of culture in France, in his view, cultural and intelligenzfeindlichsten country in the world ( Existe - t-il une vie intellectual en France? , Verdier, 2002). In his book Archéologie d'un échec, 1950-1993 ( Seuil, 1993), he described the history of the left in France - which he is to blame for - and the failure of their illusions.
