Jean-Claude Turcotte

Jean -Claude Cardinal Turcotte ( born June 26, 1936 in Montreal, Canada) is an emeritus Archbishop of Montréal.

Life

Jean -Claude Turcotte received a humanist education, studying in Montréal Catholic theology and philosophy. After his ordination in May 1959, he worked for two years as a curate in Montreal, before he worked as an assistant chaplain for the Young Christian Workers of his home diocese from 1961 to 1964.

In the years 1964 and 1965 he studied social work in Lille and was then Chief diocesan chaplain for the Young Christian Workers of the Archdiocese of Montréal. From 1967 to 1974 he held various tasks in the personnel department, said he was particularly concerned with questions of candidates for the priesthood and the training for the priesthood. Subsequently, he worked for seven years as Director of the Department of parish ministry of his diocese.

1981 appointed him Cardinal Paul Grégoire, archbishop of Montreal, Vicar General, a year later, Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Suas and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Montréal. 1990 Jean -Claude Turcotte was then Cardinal Gregoire's resignation new Archbishop of Montréal.
