Jean Craighead George

Jean Craighead George ( born July 2, 1919 in Washington, DC; † 15, 2012 in Valhalla, New York) was an American writer.

It became famous through the work of Julie of the Wolves, which has won several awards.

The book tells the story of a girl who lives in harmony with nature for a while. In the course of her adventure she realizes how cruel is man and decides to live like an Eskimo. She learns that her dead Felt father is still alive and looking for him. However, they must realize that the man she knew, but died.

The book won the 1973 Newbery Medal and 1975 the German Youth Book Prize.
