Jean Daetwyler

Hans Jean Daetwyler August ( born January 24, 1907 in Basel, † June 4, 1994 in Sierre ) was a Swiss conductor and composer.

Life

Daetwyler studied from 1927 to 1938 in Paris at the Schola Cantorum and the School César Franck, where he was from 1927 to 1938 student of Vincent d' Indy, Charles Koechlin, Guy de Lioncourt, Albert Bertelin and Jean de Valois. In 1939 he returned to Switzerland and settled in Sierre down. He was music director. From 1947 to 1972 he was professor of harmony and counterpoint at the conservatory in Sion, Switzerland. Daetwyler was the founder and from 1948 to 1990 at the same time conductor of the La Chanson du Rhône.

Compositionally, it has references to Gregorian chant, for the Valais folklore and expressionism. His oeuvre comprises some 600 compositions.
