Jean-Daniel Gerber

Jean -Daniel Gerber ( born August 29, 1946) is a Swiss economist and former Secretary of State and Director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs ( SECO).

Life

J.-D. Gerber grew up German and French speaking and studied economics ( lic rer. Pol). In 2008 he the Economic and Social Science Faculty of the University of Bern awarded an honorary doctorate.

Career

In his long career in the service of Confederation Jean -Daniel Gerber worked in many different areas: In the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs ( SECO), in Geneva as Swiss representative at UNCTAD and the WTO, in Washington as head of the Economic and Financial Service in Embassy of Switzerland and subsequently as Executive Director in the World Bank Group (1993 - 1997). In November 1997, the Federal Council Jean -Daniel Gerber entrusted with the leadership of the Federal Office for Migration and as Secretary of State from 2004 to 2011 led by the SECO. Currently practicing Jean -Daniel Gerber various mandates in non-profit organizations ( President of the Swiss Public Welfare Society and the Association " reintegration in the country of origin" ) and on the boards of, President of the Board of Directors of " Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets ( SIFEM ) and a director of Credit Suisse and Lonza.
