Jean Dauberval

Jean Bercher called Dauberval ( born August 19, 1742 in Montpellier, † February 14, 1806 in Tours ) was a French dancer and choreographer.

He studied at the Ballet de l' Opéra de Paris at Jean Georges Noverre, received in 1761 the appointment as Premier danseur de demi - caractère ( see box). He made his debut in Zaïs with Gardel in the lead role. He was a member of the Académie royale de musique. In 1770 he was appointed danseur Noble.

He was ballet master and deputy Maximilien Gardel, left Paris in 1783 but to accept a job as ballet master in Bordeaux. He was a teacher by Carlo Blasis, Salvatore Viganò and Charles -Louis Didelot. Between 1785 and 1791 he brought in Bordeaux several ballets out, including Il n 'est qu ' un pas du mal au bien (1789 ), which was performed later under the title La Fille mal gardée and after numerous rewrites as one of the last ballets of the 18th century has survived to this day in the repertoire.

Dauberval was with dancer Marie -Madeleine crepe, known as Mll.e Théodore married.
