Jean Godin des Odonais

Jean Godin of Odonais ( Odonais was his mother's maiden name) (* 1712 in Saint- Amand- Montrond; † ibid, 1792) was a French naturalist and cartographer.

He took off in 1735 in the expedition of the French Academy of Sciences in the Viceroyalty of Peru in part to measure the shape of the Earth. He married 1741 Isabel Gramesón in Quito and left Riobamba in 1749 (today Ecuador ) to return to France on French Guiana. Isabel followed him many years later and met him after an adventurous journey through the Amazon region after more than twenty years. Together they traveled to France, where they spent their retirement years.
