Jean Graton

Jean Graton ( born August 10, 1923 in Nantes ) is a French comic book artist.

Career

Through his father, who organized motorcycle racing, Jean Graton came early with motor racing in contact. Already with eight years his first drawing was published in a local newspaper. After the war, he moved to Brussels, where he worked as an advertising and an industrial designer. Finally, he got a job in the World 's Press by Georges Trois Fontaines, where he was short stories of Uncle Paul, which appeared in Spirou.

In Tintin Jean Graton was given the opportunity to also draw on his own texts. In 1957, he launched the series Michel Vaillant, which was a great success and became a classic of the racers comics. Later, he had to rely on assistants and opened his own studio in order to cope with the work. His own publishing company he founded in 1982.

Jean Graton retired in 2001 for health reasons from drawing back, leaving the daily operations in the Studio Graton his son Philippe, who has also worked as a copywriter for Michel Vaillant comic books. The comics today with a new artist team in the publishing house Dupuis, after the self-publishing Graton Editeur 2009 his activity ceased.

Jean Graton, who has lost a son in 2009 and 2011, his wife, is after a few strokes of care today.
