Jean Kickx

Jean Kickx ( born January 17, 1803 in Brussels, † September 1, 1864 in Brussels) was a Flemish botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " J.Kickx f ".

Jean Kickx was the son of Jean Kickx (senior) and Jeanne -Catherine Van Merstraeten. He studied natural sciences at the University of Louvain, where he graduated in 1830 with a doctorate degree in pharmacy. He first took over his father's pharmacy, then worked in various medical institutions in Brussels in 1834 to take up a professorship of botany and mineralogy in Brussels. After only a year he was appointed professor at the University of Ghent, where he remained until his death in 1864. Since the 1840s he explored the cryptogamic flora of the north-western Belgium and began the work cryptogamique Flore des Flandres, which was completed by his son Jean Jacques Kickx and published in 1867.
