Jean Langlais

Jean Langlais (* February 15, 1907 in La Fontenelle, Brittany, † 8 May 1991 in Paris) was a French composer and organist.

Life

Jean Langlais was in the first half of the 20th century one of the most experimental composers and organists in France.

The blinded by glaucoma in the second year Langlais studied at the Institut National de Jeunes Aveugles in Paris. There he studied with Albert Mahaut, a pupil of César Franck and the blind organist André Marchal. Initial successes were masters class at the Paris Conservatory prices with Marcel Dupré and Paul Dukas. Finally, he himself taught for 40 years at the National Institute for Blind Youth. Between 1961 and 1976, was added a professor of organ at the Schola Cantorum.

Known about the walls of the conservatoires addition, Langlais but mainly as titular organist at the Parisian church of Ste- Clotilde von 1945 until 1988.
