Jean Leguay (artist)

Jean Leguay ( born August 22, 1955 in Paris ), known as Jano, is a French cartoonist.

Life and work

Jean Leguay spent three years studying fine arts in Paris. Together with Bertrand Tramber he created in 1978 the figure Kebra, an anthropomorphic rat similar petty criminal from the Parisian suburbs. The comics were first published in various magazines and to 1985 in five albums, two of which appeared as the Kebra rat in German language in bags. Impressions of a trip to Africa he used for the two comics with the sailor Keubla. In the published roll -Verlag album On the trail of Bongo, the figure has the name Kebla and experiencing different adventures in East Africa. In other Keubla triftt on Kebra. The heroine of his science fiction comics Gazoline et la planète rouge (English Gazoline and the red planet ) is also an anthropomorphic figure, a cheetah.

Jano has also published books about his travels, Carnet d' Afrique, Bonjour les Indes ( with Ben Radis and Dodo ) and Rio de Janeiro

2003 documentary Rio de Jano by Anna Azevedo and Renata Baldi appeared on a trip Janos to Rio de Janeiro in 2000.

Awards

In 1990 he was awarded the Prix du meilleur album at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d' Angoulême et la planète rouge for Gazoline.
