Jean Lepautre

Jean Lepautre (actually le Pautre ) ( born June 28, 1618 † February 2, 1682 ) was a French engraver and etcher.

Life

He started as an apprentice to a carpenter and contractor. He developed a special skill as a draftsman. His countless and lush designs consisted mainly of ceilings, friezes, mantelpieces, door frames and wall decorations. He also designed andirons, buffets, cabinets, Pfeilertischchen and other pieces of furniture.

Le Pautre has long been employed by a tapestry maker. His works are often overloaded and artful. His work also includes nearly 1,500 engravings, including a portrait of him self

In 1677 he was inducted into the Academy of Paris.

Le Pautre has about 1500 Serving sheets for the art industry erased, which as collections under different titles ( Livre de miroirs tables etc.; Feuillages et autres ornements; Vases et bordures de miroirs; Escussons ) have appeared in the 19th century as a model for the have gained importance again Louis XIV style.
